Section 1 — History of Long-Term Care & the Activity Professional
Explore the evolution from almshouses to modern long-term care, the history of activity programming, today's activity professional role, and the significance of OBRA '87.
Section 2 — People We Serve & the Role of Activities
Compare long-term care settings, examine the Activity Director's responsibilities in each setting, and understand the relationship between activity leadership and facility administration.
Section 3 — Diseases & Activity Programming
Study 10 common illnesses affecting older adults, become familiar with 30 additional conditions encountered in long-term care, and learn how to adapt programming to individual challenges.
Section 4 — End-of-Life Care
Examine grief and loss, the five stages of grief as a conceptual model, hospice and palliative care, and the activity professional's role in compassionate end-of-life support.
Section 5 — Person-Centered Activity Calendar
Develop a person-centered activity calendar, explore approaches to culture change, and learn about the Pioneer Network and Green House Project.
Section 6 — Regulations & Survey Process
Understand activity department regulations, prepare for the survey process, and learn to read survey reports and interpret deficiency ratings.
